Description:
Abolished during the Cultural Revolution, China's national college entrance exam, or "gao kao", was reinstated in December 1977, a mark of the changes to come as the country stood on the eve of great reformation and opening to the outside world. That winter some five million people sat for the country's first college exams in over a decade. Taking the audience back thirty years to that fateful turning point year, Gao Kao 1977 follows a group of youth of different backgrounds, each with dreams and difficulties of their own, and their common journeys to the national college entrance exam.
